RYA First Aid - A one day course in First Aid techniques for small boat users The RYA First Aid course provides a working knowledge of first aid for all those who go afloat, on inland waters or up to 60 miles offshore. Prompt, informed intervention can be a lifesaver. Simply having the confidence to get stuck in and assist could make the vital difference. Accidents on board leisure craft are mercifully rare, but when they happen help is rarely close at hand. A valid First Aid certificate is a requirement for Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore candidates. The RYA First Aid certificate fulfils the requirements of the MCA Code of Practice for small commercial vessels up to category 2 and for all RYA practical instructors. The certificate is valid for 3 years. This revised RYA First Aid syllabus is based on the recomendations of the Health and Safety Executive and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
